Save the Date: FIRST Virtual Showcase

Save the date for the FIRST Virtual Showcase Presented by Qualcomm slated for Saturday, May 2nd, 2020 at 10 am. FIRST community will be recognizing the achievements of FIRST teams, mentors, and volunteers around the world during the FIRST RISE powered by Star Wars: Force for Change season.

Now through May 2, share how your team is a Force for Change, as well as your team’s favorite moments during the FIRST RISE season, on Twitter and Instagram using #FIRSTFFC.

FIRST will be collecting your favorite moments, stories, monumental breakthroughs, and team accomplishments on FIRST RISE Rewind.

Suggested content includes:

• Photos and/or videos from events, teams, volunteers, and inspiring moments
• High-resolution photo files; b-roll; video cutdowns
• A short dedication about your community, team shout-outs, and/or community outreach efforts
• Video or word document

FIRST AWARDS INFORMATION

FIRST announced they are continuing with the Dean’s List and Woodie Flowers Finalist Award process. FIRST will be selecting and recognizing Chairman’s Winners for both Regionals that have been suspended.

A few pointers to keep in mind:

Chairmans Award

• FIRST will only use the submitted essays to decide the winners of the Chairman’s Award at each Regional Event.
• There will be no remote interviews and no additional material will be collected by the Judges.

• Decisions regarding Chairman’s Awards for District Championships will be made later.
• A minimum of 2 judges per event will be responsible for reading the essay submissions and selecting winners.
• Just like the normal season, a team can only win Chairman’s at one event so we will ensure that this occurs.
• Winners will be notified later this year and trophies, plaques, medallions, and banners will be provided to winning teams.

Since the 2020 FIRST Championship has been canceled, FIRST Championship Chairman’s Award Winners will not be selected for the 2020 season. Decisions about advancement to the 2021 FIRST Championship will be made later.

FIRST Dean’s List Award:

• All students that have been nominated for Dean’s List will receive an interview remotely. Students will be considered for the event they are already assigned to. A local Judge Advisor will reach out to Lead Coach/Mentor 1 and 2 to schedule a time to be interviewed.
• Each Suspended Regional event will have 2 Finalists selected, just as if the event occurred as scheduled.
• Finalists will be notified once the decisions have been made for that event. Finalists will then be judged by a committee and considered to become Dean’s List Winners. In the coming weeks, we will continue to inform teams on how and when the 10 winners will be announced. The details are still being finalized, so we appreciate your patience as we navigate through these changes.

Woodie Flowers Finalist Awards:

As the judging process is done remotely, Finalists will be chosen for each event just as if the event occurred as scheduled. All mentors who have been nominated for the Woodie Flowers Finalist Award will be considered for the event they were nominated for. Finalists and re-nominated WFFAs will then be judged by the Woodie Flowers Group and considered for the Woodie Flowers Award. In the coming weeks, we will inform you of how the Finalists and Winners will be announced.
