Kool Mist Formula 77 is a water-dilutable machining coolant used to cool and lubricate the cutting interface. At the STEM Center, it is delivered through a FogBuster non-atomizing coolant system, which uses a low-pressure air stream to carry relatively large coolant droplets directly to the tool and cutting zone rather than producing a conventional fine coolant mist.

Do not mix, dilute, refill, or handle the coolant concentrate without appropriate eye protection and protective gloves. Avoid direct skin and eye contact with both the concentrate and diluted working coolant.

Coolant is delivered through a FogBuster non-atomizing coolant system. Unlike conventional mist coolant systems, the FogBuster uses a low-pressure air stream to carry larger coolant droplets directly to the tool and cutting zone without intentionally atomizing the coolant into a fine airborne mist.
This source-control method allows the coolant to be used on machines with an open enclosure, provided the FogBuster is properly adjusted. The nozzle must be directed at the cutting zone, and only the minimum air pressure and coolant flow necessary for effective cooling and lubrication should be used.
During normal operation, the system should not produce a visible cloud of fine coolant mist or significant spray escaping from the work area. If that occurs, stop and correct the nozzle position, air pressure, or coolant flow before continuing.
Eye protection and protective gloves are used when mixing, diluting, filling, or otherwise handling the coolant concentrate.

Good to know
The November 2024 safety data sheet classifies the concentrate as Skin Irritation 2 (H315) and Eye Irritation 2B (H320), with triethanolamine listed at 20–40%. The signal word is Warning, and protective gloves and eye protection are appropriate when handling the concentrate.
The most significant routine exposure occurs while mixing, diluting, filling, or otherwise handling the concentrate. Dilution substantially reduces the concentration of the irritating components, but skin and eye contact with the working coolant should still be minimized.
During machining, the coolant is delivered through a FogBuster non-atomizing system rather than a conventional mist system. The primary process control is therefore to keep the nozzle properly aimed at the cutting zone and use only the air and fluid flow needed for effective cooling and lubrication. Proper adjustment minimizes the production and escape of fine airborne coolant droplets.
This water-based coolant is not treated as a significant fire hazard under normal use conditions.
